Keepin’ It Green

January 11, 2012

How are those new year resolutions coming?

Still on track with those exercise regimens, healthy & clean diets and positive attitudes?  Or have you fallen off the wagon yet?  Maybe a few too many hours sprawled on the couch watching Real Housewives reruns and constantly saying ‘omg she’s such an idiot’?  Maybe you’ve spent too much time in the candy bar aisle comparing calories and fat between M&Ms, Snickers and KitKats?  Or maybe even a few friendly words to the high school kid’s pile-a-junk car that stalled right at the green light?

Yeah me neither. 😉

Green Monster

I am happy to report the juicing is still kicking some ass.  People I use this thing everyday and LOVE it.  I even had the nephews over for a special juicing session this weekend, cause they love it too.  I sure bet my brother loves his sister’s ‘uniqueness’ rubbing off on his kids.  Hehe.

Also doing pretty well at living in the moment.  This week is crazy busy as a wrap up my last week at the ‘old’ job and teach & attend many yoga classes, but I still feel very content and able to successfully make it through each and everyday with a happy face.  Thank you yoga!

Speaking of yoga…watch this video.  Cracks me up!

Regardless of how well or not so well your new year’s resolutions are going, how about trying something delicious, healthy and a little frightening?  Seriously you might think this is weird, but at just 350 calories this baby will fill you up (I only could get 3/4 through it) and support anything you do whether it’s a 5-mile run or a 5-hour session on the couch.  And you only need a straw.

Green Monster

Green Monster Spinach Smoothie

from Iowa Girl Eats  (Iowa gals rule!)

1 frozen sliced banana

1 Tablespoon peanut butter

1/2 cup 0% Vanilla Chobani Greek yogurt

1 cup Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Breeze (or other kind of milk) – I used Silk Unsweetened Almond Milk

4 cups baby spinach (or more, or less)

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.

Nutritional stats:

350 calories, 10g fiber, 21g protein

I even threw in a few strawberries for good measure.

Like I said, this thing is filling.  It’s very good too and taste mostly like a peanut buttery banana milkshake.  The ingredients may seem weird together on paper, but no weird stuff happens with the taste buds, trust me.

Even kitty wanted some.

So instead of eat your greens.  DRINK your greens.

Keep it green folks.
