Garden Review – August 14-20

August 22, 2011

Can you believe it is back to school time already?  Sorry about your luck if you are headed back into the classroom.

But wait…you had summer off… I’m actually not that sorry.  😉

This time of the year also means that summer is winding down to an end and not long the garden will be too.  And gosh before we know it that white crud will be falling from the sky.  Bum-mer.

So we all better enjoy whats left of this season.  K?

Week of August 14-20

Beautiful weather plus some good rain showers has been a treat for the garden and lawn, which seems to be growing again after its crunchy dormancy from our hot summer.

Cherry tomatoes

  • One good sized bowl of cherry tomatoes
  • Heirloom tomatoes – I lost count 😦
  • (1) large watermelon
  • Remaining crop of soybeans (edamame)
  • (5) sweet banana peppers
  • (1) green bell pepper
  • (2) sweet red peppers
  • Herbs – basil, mint, thyme

Garden Notables

  • Heirloom tomatoes are now ripening at a pace faster than I can eat fresh – looking forward to making some sauce?
  • I thought all my fall seedlings had germinated – but realized spinach has not
  • Kitchen garden is definitely at a turning point now only producing peppers and tomatoes
  • Surprise lilies in full bloomTomato plants in raised bed

Still loving my raised beds.  Oh and if I can ever make up my mind on what to do with the paths, maybe that project can get wrapped up before winter.

Peppers in raised beds

Here’s the full view – you can see the fall seedlings are coming along in the front beds…along with another round of monster kale.
